BOISE, ID (CBS 2) — Walking the streets of Downtown Boise something else is on Sophia Doumani’s mind.
"I've always had a huge thirst for adventure and I don't think that there is a better place than Idaho to get that out," Sophia explains. There are so many amazing businesses, people, places to explore and so many stories that need to be told and I feel so fortunate to be able to tell those stories."
Sophia, a former reporter at CBS 2 News used her reporting experience to make a dream come true.
"Second grade career day I came in a pencil skirt and a blouse and I wanted to be a tv host," Sophia recollects, "This has been something I've wanted my entire life and I am so happy it is happening."
Those dreams take her and her fiancé, who happens to be her photographer into the outdoors throughout the month.
"We've gone dog sledding, we've gone snowmobiling, pretty much you name it we've done it or are going to do it," Sophia says.
Sophia will go anywhere for any adventure.
"We recently went to tea kettle cave and I didn't think we were gonna make it, my car kept bottoming out. It's all dirt and there were rocks and more rocks and then you get to this little hole and you climb in and it's this little hole but it was stunning and it was so fun and rewarding, my car wouldn't agree with it, but I'd do it again," Sophia says.
Hidden Gems in the Gem State began airing in January on CBS 2. and
Already, Sophia’s been fishing on the Salmon River, up-close with elk, snowmobiling in the mountains, exploring the Tea Kettle Cave and duck hunting – something she admits was a brand-new experience for her.
"Duck hunting wasn't something I would have done on my own but I am so thankful to have this show to push me toward new experiences," Sophia says. "I want this show to have something for everyone."
Sophia carefully shows off the Best of Idaho and finds the fun in every adventure!
Whether you are new to Idaho or have lived here all your life, Sophia hopes her show will make you love your home even more!
"I am by no means an expert at anything, I am not a great hiker, I'm not a great hunter," Sophia laughs. "I don't know what I'm doing half the time but I hope people that are watching think, if she can do it, I can too."
Hidden Gems in the Gem State airs Sunday on CBS 2 at 7 a.m. and Sunday at noon on the CW.
