Navalny Finds Another Elite Apartment Owned by Sobyanin's Eldest Daughter

Mayoral candidate Alexei Navalny has posted copies of documents in his LiveJournal blog showing that the elder daughter of his election rival and acting Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin owns an elite apartment in Moscow, in addition to one in St. Petersburg.

Anna Sobyanina became the owner of the 3-room, 108-square-meter apartment on 2/1 Ulitsa Kosygina in 2011, the documents indicate.

A 180-square-meter-apartment in the same building is currently up for sale at $3.9 million. On that basis, the cost per square meter is about $21,000, meaning that Anna Sobyanina's apartment could be worth $2.2 million to $2.3 million, Navalny calculated in a post published late last week.

Sobyanin's press secretary declined to comment on the materials published by Navalny, Vedomosti reported.

In July, the building became the center of a major scandal in connection with the illegal construction of high-end apartments on land owned by the Russian Academy of Sciences.

On Aug. 13, Navalny provided details of Anna Sobyanina's ownership of an apartment on Malaya Konyushennaya street in St. Petersburg with an estimated value of $3.5 million. He also said she owns Forus Group, which supplies luxury furniture to government agencies, and asked the Investigative Committee to check whether Sobyanin and his daughter are involved in corruption.

The news came just days after City Hall confirmed that Sobyanin's younger daughter, Olga, 16, owns a Moscow apartment that could be worth about $5.3 million. Navalny has accused Sobyanin of illegally privatizing the apartment.
