Amitabh Bachchan is no stranger to the court house. He's playing one intense lawyer in the upcoming Pink and best part he's played a lawyer part in five movie before. Not just that, he's also been a true rockstar in a court house on many occasions. When he's not in a robe and cross questioning witnesses, he's playing the angry hero card from the witness box. Truth is, Mr Bachchan absolutely rocks the court house in these 7 films.
Pink
Amitabh Bachchan plays a bipolar lawyer with severe personality issues in the upcoming Pink. If the trailers of the film are anything to go by, it’s going to be Mr Bachchan and his characteristic intensity ruling the roost all the way. His character is supposed to be fighting the good fight but he seems to be doing it in a rather unconventional and aggressive way. It just means Mr Bachchan will rock the court house like nobody else can.
Shootout at Lokhandwala
Amitabh Bachchan’s last foray as a black robed lawyer was in Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Lokhandwala. Here he played Prosecutor Dhingra and his main objective was to investigate the motives and the actions of the three police officers who were involved in the titular police encounter in the film. Most of this film was a series of interviews, but Mr Bachchan did step into a court house and that was a perfect balance of style and substance.
Adalat
This Godfather wannabe movie from 1976 featured Amitabh Bachchan in a double role. He played the father who turns to a life of crime and makes his way to becoming a respect and feared godfather-like figure. The younger Amitabh Bachchan, his son, studies in Britain and is a lawyer. Even though the lawyer son barely makes an impact in a court house, it’s the older Bachchan who’s framed in the court and sentenced to 18 months of prison who makes the big impact. After his employer and benefactor turns on him, he jumps from the witness box and attacks the person in court. He surely rocks the court house on that occasion.
Shahenshah
Shahensha is that cult Amitabh Bachchan movie that features him in a different sort of double role. He plays Vijay a young police officer wanting to redeem his dead father’s name but going about in a very conniving way. His alter ego is a black leather and chain clad crime fighter called Shahenshah who brings wrong doers to justice in a violent vigilante way. The climax of Shahensha features Amitabh Bachchan hanging bad man Amrish Puri to his death in the court. It’s the ultimate was of depicting justice. A definite action-packed court house memory.
Immaan Dharam
Immaan Dharam is a trippy masala pot boiler where Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor play mock witnesses. These guys change get ups and give fake testimonies in court cases just to earn easy money. Here Amitabh Bachchan plays a wise-cracking guy who learns the follies of his ways when he tries to go straight. It’s then that he realises the gravity of his previous actions and truly reforms. But the scene where he rocks the court house is when he gives a false deposition involving a dog. The said scene features some fantastic comedy and is definitely a funny court house moment.
Mahaan
If you though double role Amitabh Bachchan movies featuring court houses and lawyers were awesome, you need to watch Mahaan. This great masala movie features Mr Bachchan in a triple role. The father character named Amit is a lawyer. He’s framed by his friend and client Amjad Khan and that tears apart his family. His twin sons Shankar and Guru (also played by Amitabh Bachchan) are also part of the lost and found theme.
Zamaanat
Zamaanat is a yet unreleased movie where Amitabh Bachchan plays a blind lawyer. This movie was supposed to go on floor in 1996 but it’s been stuck in limbo since the early 2000s.
